5 Reasons Why Specialized Turbo Vado SL is the Perfect Ebike for Summer

5 Reasons Why Specialized Turbo Vado SL is the Perfect Ebike for Summer

Pound for pound, no other e-bike has the power, range, and ride quality than the Turbo Vado SL. Wondering what makes this electric bike by Specialized so unique? Read on for 4 major benefits of the Turbo Levo SL and discover why it’s the perfect ebike for summer fun.

Ride Further

The Turbo Levo SL features Specialized 2x You rider amplification, so you can go twice the distance in the same amount of time. Cruise to 28 mph up to 80 miles, or add an optional range extender for an additional 40 miles for rides up to 120 miles. The removable range extender is compact, making charging easy wherever you go.

Go All Over

When you want a bike that works as well on a commute to work as it does for getting in a workout, running errands, and getting around town, the Turbo Levo SL will take you there. Best for workouts and going off the beaten path — all you need to do is get on the Turbo Levo SL and go. Bright, built-in lights at the front and back mean you’ll see and be seen, while a Turbo Connect display makes it easy to view ride info. Specialized Pathfinder tires give you grip and speed in any condition. A standard rear rack is ready for your bags and belongings. You won’t find a better bike for your go-to transportation.

40% Lighter

The Turbo Levo SL is 40% lighter than other ebikes. It’s so lightweight, you’ll forget its electric. The E5 aluminum frame makes this ebike weigh as little as 33 pounds. That’s light enough for you to carry up and down stairs without breaking a sweat.

Smooth Ride That’s Beyond Belief

A full carbon chassis developed in concert with a new Turbo Full Power System motor and MasterMind Turbo Control Unit fuses together 150mm of rear suspension, progressive geometry, and sophisticated motor assist to bring you a ride like no other.

Future Shock brings ultralight suspension to your ride, reducing the harsh feel of rough roads and terrain by nearly 40% compared to bikes with bulky, heavier suspension forks.

Designed with Feedback from Ebike Riders

Specialized looked to their Turbo ebike riders to discover how to improve their experience and found 80% of rides happened in Eco Mode (the lowest level of assistance). Riders said they’d be willing to lose the top speed mode to save 10 lbs from their bike.

Specialized discovered a need for a new kind of e-bike experience — one that offers riders a better balance of ride amplification without losing the more natural feel of riding that they love. So Specialized’s Swiss engineering team launched a mission to create a new kind of ebike that eliminates any need to compromise between power, weight, range, and ride quality.

The result was Super Light System technology, Specialized’s dream blend of performance, portability, and possibility. The SL system combines smooth power (up to twice your physical output), revolutionary weight (40% lighter than typical ebikes), and increased range (up to 120 miles with Range Extender), all while delivering ride characteristics that you’d expect from the very best unassisted bikes.

When you want an ebike that’s lightweight and balanced that you can take just about anywhere, the Turbo Vado SL is the perfect bike for you.

Real Reviews from Real Riders

If you need a bit more convincing that the Thule T2 Pro XTR is the absolutely perfect way to transport your ebikes, take a look at these high-praise reviews. The Thule T2 Pro rack has over 800 reviews on Amazon, earning 5-star accolades from an impressive 83% of reviewers. So don’t take our word for it… here are just a few of the things real people have to say about the Thule T2 rack.

“Great quality. Strong enough to accommodate my two 58lb e-bikes.”

“Rack is awesome. It’s very easy to install on the car and very easy to load bikes onto. I put my 29’er mountain bike on it and it fits fine.”

“I researched EBike racks for a couple months and I am so glad I purchased the Thule T2 Pro.”

“After struggling with several of the “hanging” style hitch-mount bike racks which really don’t fit our cruiser bikes very well at all, we finally invested in the flatbed-style T2 Pro XT — and what a difference it makes! This rack is absolutely rock-solid when attached to the hitch and the bikes mount easily and quickly.”

“The assembly was fairly easy, and following the instructions, I had been driving around with the rack (without bikes) for about 200 miles already before the first use fully loaded. Last night we set it up with bikes, and it was really easy to secure a bike on it. There are multiple YouTube videos out there if you need assistance with assembly and setup. The rack is super well made. Very durable material, and very easy to set up and use while allowing for trunk access when loaded. That was the selling point for me. It folds up for easy transportation when not in use, and it folds down for trunk access when loaded with bikes.”

“This Thule hitch is easy to mount in my 2″ hitch, and there it securely remains whether one or two bicycles are mounted. Whether at 25 mph or at 65 mph. Whether on smooth paved roads or on bumpy backcountry roads. This is by far easier than a roof-mount system. It also does not tax your fuel mileage. Five stars. Unquestionably.”

How Specialized Soil Searching Tires Build Trails Across the Globe

Find out why Specialized is digging into further trail system development and supporting trail advocates across the globe, and meet the Soil Searching Tires helping them do just that.

Specialized Soil Searching Supports Trail Builders

Imagine owning a car without a road to drive on. Or a basketball without a hoop.

Now imagine mountain biking without a trail network to ride on.

Trail systems are the heart of cycling, which is why Specialized’s Soil Searching program is honoring its unsung heroes: the trail builders and advocates who make it all possible.

Since 2018, Specialized Soil Searching has provided financial, organizational, and outreach support for trail systems around the world. Soil Searching focuses on three essential aspects of trail work — ambassadors, dig days, and fundraisers — to assist communities in maintaining and growing their trail networks.

Specialized asked:

“What if the outdoor industry sponsored trail builders the way it currently sponsors professional athletes?”

The Specialized Soil Searching Global Trail Ambassador program does just that. Soil Searching Ambassadors receive support from Specialized — stipends, custom Soil Searching bikes, and continued support to build the trail systems you love to ride.

We can’t all be amazing trail-building wizards. For those of us who want to show our support for the men and women who build our trail networks, Specialized has a special fundraising opportunity that benefits you and trail ambassadors around the world.

Specialized Soil Searching Tires: These Tires Build Trails

Specialized’s limited-edition Soil Searching tires help build trails. Every Soil Searching tire you buy helps support Specialized Soil Searching and its mission.

The Best Ways to Celebrate Bike Month in Northern California

Northern California is one of the best regions in the world for cyclists. Find out the best ways to celebrate Bike Month in NorCal. May is Bike Month, a celebration of cycling and the benefits of biking. Bike Month encourages us all to leave our cars parked in the garage and swap vehicle trips for bike trips, instead. It doesn’t matter if you’re an occasional biker or dedicated cycling enthusiast — Bike Month is for you! From the best bike shop, parks, trails, routes, and crazy-beautiful scenery, there’s no better place to ride than our Northern California home. Here are 6 ways to celebrate Bike Month in NorCal:

Take the Bike Month Pledge

Take the pledge to replace car trips with bike trips at mayisbikemonth.com. Accept the Bike Your City challenge, pledge how many trips you’ll take by bike in May, log your miles, and you can earn e-badges, prizes, and bragging rights! Join Roseville Cyclery in the team challenge!

Support Your Local Bike Shop

Many small businesses were hit hard by COVID shutdowns and interruptions to the supply chain last year. When you shop local, you support your local economy and your neighbors. Show your locally owned bike shop some love this month by shopping for bikes, apparel, and accessories at your favorite local shop, rather than the big box stores or online giants.

Consider an Ebike for Commuting and Recreation

Bike Month Reminds us about the importance of swapping out car trips for bike trips. Biking can be one of the best choices for the environment. A bike requires only .085% of the land and resources needed to produce a car. According to a 2015 study by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, a 20% increase in world cycling could cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 11% by 2050. Many of the reasons people don’t commute by bike — “my trip is too long, I don’t want to get to work sweaty, etc.” — could be solved by using an ebike for commuting. Ebikes use an electric motor to help riders go farther and faster on their bikes, making them the perfect solution for commuting. But ebikes aren’t just for commuting: they’re also tons of fun! An ebike can help recreational riders and cycling enthusiasts reach new heights (literally) and explore new roads never seen before. Discover 5 benefits of electric bikes here. Roseville Cyclery is Northern California’s premier ebike destination. Shop our selection of ebikes in-store and online.

The Auburn Bike Park Begins Phase Two of Construction

Our local region of Placer County is home to an exciting cycling scene, and now that community has a home at the Auburn Bike Park. First opened in June of 2020, the park is an exciting gathering place for the community, and soon this local favorite will get even bigger!

Learn more about the second phase of construction on the bike park, and what this means for our cycling community.

What is the Auburn Bike Park?

The Auburn Bike Park gives Placer County’s active outdoor community a place to gather in a family-friendly environment and ride together! Adults and youth of all ability levels can gather to ride and build new cycling skills.

When you visit, you’ll enjoy great rides like:

  • The A-Town Trail: A two-way trial for all skill levels. This trail connects the parking lot to the pump track.
  • The Pandemic Trail: An advanced trail offering a steep shortcut to the starting mound of the pump track. Built and opened during the 2020 Pandemic.
  • Tyke’s Turn Track: Built for young riders to build their skill sets. Ages 5 and under.
  • The Down Low Pump Track: Improve your bike handling skills with a pump track that encourages you to “pump” with your arms and legs.
  • The Itchy-Scratchy Trail: The upper section of this trail is a rocky path for advanced riders. After the road crossing, however, it mellows out and is perfect for beginners.
  • C-Me Flow Trail: Enjoy a quarter-mile rollercoaster ride! Provides the full mountain biking experience.
  • The Equalizer Dual Slalom: Features rollers and bermed turns to test your gravity and speed. Advanced riders only.

The Auburn Bike Park is only 16-miles by car or 19-miles by bike from our Roseville Cyclery showroom.

What’s New in Phase Two?

Exciting changes are in store for our local bike park. Work has begun on Phase Two of construction, which will add great new riders for cyclists. This will include:

  • Jump Lines: The jumps will be a natural progression from the Down Low Pump Track. This ride will offer three different lines for beginning, intermediate, and advanced riders, and will feature wooden ramps and a return wall back to the starting mound.
  • Skillz Loop: This loop will be an easier ride, offering riders an option to try challenging features along the way, like wooden tracks and rock features.

How Can I Get Involved?

The bike park offers a great outlet for our local cyclists to get together and ride! If you want to contribute to the future of the park, there are a few great ways to get involved:

  • Volunteer: Volunteers are essential to maintaining and expanding the bike park. You can sign up to volunteer and help provide regular maintenance or participate in a scheduled workday.
  • Donate: You can help support the Auburn Bike Park by contributing to the Auburn Trails Alliance, a 501c3 organization dedicated to building our local trail community. Individuals and businesses can even contribute set amounts to have their name featured on the donor wall!

Ebike Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Electric Bike in Top Shape

Ebike Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Electric Bike in Top Shape

An ebike is a fun way to get outside and get active. Electric bikes come with many benefits, like making it easier to get out and ride more often, reducing reliance on cars, and helping cyclists enjoy longer, more challenging rides! To fully reap the benefits of your ebike, it’s important to keep it in great working condition.

With the right maintenance, your bike will last you many years to come. Make sure your ebike is in good shape with these five electric bike maintenance tips.

5 Electric Bike Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Ebike in Top Shape

#1: Clean & Lube the Chain

The chain on an ebike sees a lot of wear and tear thanks to the bike’s weight and speed. Your chain should always be clean and lubed. This can usually be accomplished by wiping the chain off with a rag and applying fresh lube sparingly. Clean off any excess lube to prevent it from attracting grit.

Note: This may not be necessary if your ebike has a belt drive system.

#2: Check the Brakes

Before you ride, take a moment to ensure your ebike’s brakes are in good working order. Because an ebike can be heavier than a traditional bike and can go at faster speeds, having your brakes in good shape is especially important.

When evaluating your brakes, consider:

  • Your brake pads should be checked for wear and tear regularly.
  • Check the brake assemblies to ensure everything is in the right position.
  • Look at the levers to ensure they aren’t out of place or leaking fluid.
  • Inspect any hoses or cables for leaks or fraying.
  • Look for loose parts or excessive rotor and pad wear.

It’s also strongly recommended that you get your ebike serviced regularly by a qualified professional, as they can help you spot issues you may not be able to. They can evaluate your brakes and perform any necessary maintenance, like brake bleeding.

Roseville Cyclery recommends brake bleeding once a year, which helps remove air that may get caught in the hydraulics of bikes with hydraulic disc brakes.

#3: Keep Your Battery Charged

The battery life on your ebike is impacted by many factors, including the terrain you ride on, the assistance mode you use, and rider weight and size. In general, your ebike battery will take between 3 and 5 hours to fully charge, and can be charged over 1,000 times without degradation.

Your battery can easily be recycled and replaced when it’s time to get a new one. To ensure it’s in good working order, your ebike maintenance specialist will test your battery’s health when you bring your bike in for service.

#4: Make Sure the Tires Are in Good Shape

Make sure your tires are always properly inflated – this will help maximize your mileage. Underinflated tires don’t roll efficiently and won’t support your bike well.

If you notice your tires’ tread is worn out or see noticeable signs of wear, like cracked rubber or other deformities, it’s time to invest in new tires. You’ll want to replace them with tires made specifically for ebikes.

When you bring your bike in for service, your ebike maintenance team can also make sure that your spoke tension is correct and your wheels are true to help you achieve a better ride.

#5: Update the Firmware

Because your ebike is electronic, it may occasionally need a firmware update to keep it running efficiently and effectively.

Depending on the type of bike you have, you may be able to check to see if your firmware needs an update. For example, Specialized ebike owners can check their firmware on the Mission Control App.

Your ebike repair shop can help you run any necessary updates.

Staying on top of your electric bike maintenance will help you enjoy your ebike for many years to come. If you ride a Roseville Cyclery ebike, our service team can help you keep it in good working order. Schedule an ebike maintenance appointment.
